José Miguel Soares Wisnik is a Brazilian musician, composer and essayist. He is also a professor of Brazilian Literature at the University of São Paulo. The multiplicity of facets in his work goes beyond literature and music, connecting to different fields of culture.

The result of his artisanry, which moves between lyrics and musical keys, takes shape in songs and diverse texts, sung and spoken in "show-classes", theatre presentations and as books or publications in the country's major newspapers.

His style of singing and conveying music conducts us to unusual sound tracks. We can find some of this in one of his better-known books, "O Som e o Sentido" (The Sound and the Sense), an original manner in which he articulates loose pieces to build his authorial history of music. More than the history of music, according to the author, "it is a book about voices, silences, noises, chords, tocatas, and fugues." In this book, he attempts to demonstrate that the evolution of Occidental musical language draws into a spiralled path and oscillates between two alternatives, posed by the nature of sound and the nature of our bodies: pulsation and frequency.

The effects of the incidence of sound in the vibrating body is one of the vectors of his work which is relevant to us and which we can consider the crux of the conversation with the theme of X Congress.
